Red ALERT: BLM Planning to intrude on Dann Sisters Ranch
The Nevada Committee for Full Statehood is issuing, on behalf of the Dann Sisters, a code red alert. We are asking people to arrive at the Dann Sisters Wednesday night or Thursday morning.
Helen Hankins, BLM District Manager for Elko, Nevada said, "The date is set for Thursday (February 6, 2003). We will be reassessing it (the situation) on an on going basis."
The Dann Sisters have already gathered over 400 head of horses. They received help from their native American friends, Nevada ranchers, and horse conservationists. California helicopter pilots and their helicopters assisted in the gathering. The Danns horses are currently being held in corrals at the Elko County Fairgrounds that have been loaned for this project.
"No one can ever do enough to satisfy the BLM. The BLM and the Nevada State Brand Department want in on the action of gathering the horses," stated David Holmgren, Ranching Representative for the Nevada Committee for Full Statehood. "The Nevada Committee for Full Statehood opposes any taking of private property without due process of law and a bonafide court order. "
