SB 76: The Dean Rhoads/BLM Water Bill

The main aspect of this legislation allows the Federal Government (BLM) to apply for stock water alone, or in joint application with live stock operators in Nevada. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is currently holding up applications for stock water in Nevada by protesting all stock water applications on Federal Lands. This legislation gives away Nevada’s supremacy over water to the feds. The wrong legislation will be the end of Nevada’s control of her water. Yucca Mountain and control of Nevada’s municipal water sources will no doubt be next on the feds agenda if this legislation legitimizes BLM control of Nevada’s water for stock watering purposes. Unless this bill is defeated or amended we are giving control over Nevada’s water to the feds.
It is important that everyone attend this hearing. Chairman Collins appears to be very aware of the seriousness of this legislation and may amend the bill, especially if you show up and make your opinion known.
