NEVADA LIVE STOCK ASSOCIATION DEMANDS RESIGNATION
OF HEAD BRAND INSPECTOR

The Nevada Live Stock Association (NLSA) demands the resignation of Jim Connelley as director of the Division of Livestock Identification of the Nevada Department of Agriculture, citing numerous violations of Nevada statutes.

Mr. Connelley repeatedly aided and abetted the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in their illegal seizures of livestock from Nevada ranchers, in direct violation of Nevada law and its Constitution.  Specifically, Mr. Connelley violated numerous brand laws in order to transfer ownership of the livestock in question to the BLM.

David Holmgren, NLSA Vice Chairman and Chairman of its Brand Committee noted, “Sadly, Mr. Connelley has lost the trust of stockman to remain impartial in determining the ownership of livestock in Nevada.”

“If the laws of Nevada are not going to be enforced by those appointed or elected to enforce them, then they are not worth the paper on which they are written,” commented Ramona Morrison, NLSA Secretary/Treasurer.

Ben Colvin, a NLSA Board member and one of the cattlemen whose cattle were illegally confiscated stated, “I can’t sign a piece of paper transferring ownership of Mr. Connelley’s house without proper court procedures.  He shouldn’t be able to do the same thing to me with my cattle.”  The state of Nevada may be facing legal actions from Mr. Colvin and other ranchers with similar circumstances for its part, under Mr. Connelley’s direction, in the illegal seizures of cattle.  Mr. Colvin and the NLSA simply want Nevada laws enforced.

NOTE:  Copies of Letter to Governor Kenny Guinn will be made available at press conference.
